Acrodex has been and continues to be an innovative provider of professional IT services and technical solutions to the North America Construction Group (NACG). The NACG is supported by a passionate IT team, spearheaded by IT Infrastructure Manager, Lowell MacDougall. Acrodex worked closely with NACG’s IT team to find a solution that would leverage NACG’s existing tools, to help them utilize their resources more efficiently and support business growth across Canada.

Bluewater Power Distribution Corporation is a progressive utility company providing electrical distribution and related services to over 35,000 customers in Southwest Ontario. Its mission is to maintain strong local roots while adding value as a leading energy solutions provider through innovation and partnerships. In the past, Bluewater relied on multiple sources for renewals and maintenance of its software. According to IT Director Keith Broad, Bluewater Power found its options limited through its previous reseller. When Acrodex approached Broad in 2009, he had been looking for a change.
Dundee Precious Metals (DPM) is a Canadian-based, international mining company engaged in the acquisition, exploration, development, and mining and processing of precious metal properties. With a dynamic global operation, DPM decided that a more strategic, centralized approach to IT was necessary to support the emerging business requirements. With that in mind, an existing relationship with DPM allowed Acrodex to deliver a strategy on the vision DPM created.
The Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists (ACTRA) are a national organization made up of more than 21,000 professional performers working in the English-language recorded media. Lacking a forward-thinking approach, ACTRA was buying software as-needed and losing track of its licenses. Without a clear plan and vision for efficiency, ACTRA approached Acrodex to help it bring all of its agreements under one umbrella, allowing the department to gain a clear understanding of its software licenses and find an easier way to manage and budget for software procurement.
The Zebra Child Protection Centre is a not-for-profit organization that, through partnerships with police, judicial and government services, gives children a safe place to tell an adult about concerning events in their lives. When a child comes into their care, recordings are made to document the interview process. However, with Zebra’s former combination of DVD and VHS recording equipment, human error could lead to an interview not being recorded. At the recommendation of RCMP Winnipeg, Acrodex rolled out a computer-based digital interview recording (DIR) technology to great enhance the reliability and efficiency of the recording process.
McLarens Canada provides handling and risk management services to national and international risk managers, brokers, insurance markets, and public entities in each province throughout Canada. As growth continued, handling a mixed bag of software licensing through an international network became a daunting task for the IT team. With Acrodex controlling the roll-out process, McLarens began to streamline and standardize the software licensing process through a Microsoft Enterprise Agreement.
Yellowknife Education District No.1 (YED1) is located in the city of Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, with over 250 staff and approximately 2,000 students spread across 6 schools and 2 administrative offices. As a part of their IT restructuring, Acrodex worked with YED1 to develop a platform that would consolidate and optimize their IT resources, while reducing the Total Cost of Ownership.
With over 300 employees in six offices across Canada, Halsall has been ranked as one of Canada’s Best Workplaces for four consecutive years. As a company with many different software licensing options, Halsall needed a simplified licensing structure and a better handle on their deployed software to help mitigate compliancy risks. With Acrodex’s expertise in Micosoft Licensing Agreements, Halsall was able to find a solution that would address their needs and reduce any risks along the way.
L.V. Lomas is one of the largest chemical distributors in North America and the leading specialty chemical distributor in Canada. Their IT department runs a very lean and effective operation, however to maintain their high standard, they needed to be more efficient, timely, and proactive. Having a strong relationship with Acrodex, L.V. Lomas sought their advice on the best licensing solution that would address their needs.
Atlantis Systems International operates as a training integrator specializing in military, commercial aviation, and energy markets worldwide. It combines desktop and full‐flight simulation, learning management systems, flight training devices, and multimedia courseware to provide integrated flight training and aircraft maintenance training to its customers. As part of their ongoing security review, it was found that their current setup needed to be replaced. Acrodex worked with Atlantis to find a solution that would best fit their organizational needs.
The Northern Inter-Tribal Health Authority (NITHA) is made up of four partnered organizations which comprise 47% Saskatchewan’s First Nation Population living on reserves. All four organizations provide services such as: addiction services, nursing, homecare, dental therapy, mental health, environmental health and health promotion programs in addition to typical hospital services.When it came to licensing, each of the four partner organizations and NITHA were purchasing retail, OEM, and open licenses on an individual basis. However, an already successful relationship allowed Acrodex to work with NITHA in creating a strategic plan involving a Microsoft HealthCare pricing model under a Select agreement.
The U of A School of Business is one of the top business schools in Canada for research, teaching, and community involvement. Seeing rapid growth in the data center, the School of Business engaged Acrodex to perform a Virtualization Readiness Assessment (VRA). The data found a product that would provide an effective solution to meet the needs of the organization.
Alberta Health Service’s Addictions and Mental Health section offers tens of thousands of treatments and activities to clients each year. Every consultation or treatment requested by a client must be securely and accurately captured. Addictions and Mental Health was using a solution with several critical limitations and the Acrodex solution allowed staff to repair existing problems and make the system more intuitive for users.
The Learning Technologies Branch of the Alberta Ministry of Education, responsible for the design and development of digital learning resources to support program delivery in Alberta’s educational institutions, required a highly available and scalable solution to describe, catalogue and search digital learning objects and deliver them online to students, teachers and parents.Acrodex developed the LearnAlberta website (www.learnalberta.ca), a centralized online portal enabling students, teachers and parents to find multimedia learning resources that are correlated to specific courses of program of study.
NorQuest College is one of the most diverse college communities in Canada. With four campuses, regional learning sites, and a virtual campus, NorQuest serves over 10,000 students annually through fulltime, part-time and distance programs. NorQuest reaches over 200 Alberta communities with its diverse delivery modes.
As they invested in custom applications within an off-host, distributed environment the Workers’ Compensation Board was becoming increasingly complex, making the need for effective application system management architectures and guidelines highly apparent. Acrodex developed the Application Instrumentation Framework (AIF), a utility application that runs in the background to capture and log appropriate application event data such as start/end times, server/device name, etc. This solution offered WCB with a consistent view of metrics and historical data for events occurring within the instrumented applications.
Red Deer College offers more than 75 Degree, Diploma, Transfer programs and apprenticeships, focusing on small class sizes, and leverages technology to support distance learning and continuing education course options.In order to reduce the amount of time and space devoted to maintaining traditional desktop equipment, Acrodex worked with RDC to develop a high-performance, high-availability virtualized server environment across multiple data centers.
